Electric bikes have grown in popularity over the past decade and come in all shapes and sizes, but from a styling standpoint they share certain characteristics, tending towards standard bike frames, with batteries as an unsightly afterthought idea.
Today, however, many brands are more focused on design, and the situation is improving.In October 2021, we previewed the  with an e-bike and took it to the next level, especially from a design perspective.While it doesn’t have the heady style quirks of , the new London e-bike is a refined rendition of the classic city bike.
The design of the London will appeal to those looking for a more classic aesthetic, with its brushed aluminium frame and porter front rack, more reminiscent of newspaper deliveries in 1950s Paris than the streets of London in 2022.nice one.
Aimed at the city crowd, the London e-bike eschews multiple gears and offers everything you need with a single-speed setup.Single-speed bikes are traditionally easier to maintain, eliminating the need for derailleur and gear maintenance.They also have other benefits, such as making the bike lighter and easier to ride.But the single-speed model also has its drawbacks.Thankfully, that’s all done away with auxiliary power from London’s 504Wh battery, allowing you to focus on the most enjoyable elements of urban riding.
claims the battery powering the London has a range of up to 70 miles in pedal-assist mode, but that depends on the level of assistance you need and the nature of the terrain you’re riding on.(In our experience, we’ve found that 30 to 40 miles, on mixed road grades, may be closer to the mark.) The battery – with 1,000 charge/discharge cycles – takes three to four hours to fully charge.
Other standout features of the London e-bike include its puncture-resistant tires (important for bikes sold in the city) and hydraulic braking system.Elsewhere, the London’s powertrain is responsive and you’ll never feel like you’re forcing or waiting for the motor to catch up when you pedal to the bike’s top speed of 15.5mph/25km/h (the legal limit in the UK).In short, it was a wonderful experience.
